Eyob is a four years old boy and he is the first born for his parents from Amhara regional state, north Wello in a specific place called Lalibela (Debre Roha kebele) which is 6hr 42min (317 km )from the capital city of Amhara regional state. Two years ago his health condition was very good; he was with his grandparents in the remote areas. Then after one year he come back to his parents, then immediately he started to get sick and his stomach has increased in size, but it was a painless swelling on lower part of his abdomen. They thought it was nothing and the conflict broke out then they were not able to take him to a nearby hospital for almost under one year.

After one year when things settled his father and mother took him to Lalibela general Hospital. At Lalibela general hospital they examined him and his ultrasound showed cancer symptoms, then they were referred to University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Then Eyob began his tests and they stayed for two months in Gondar hospital paying 217 Birr (4 USD) per day – 13,020 Birr (246 USD) and spent for food on average 150 Birr (3 USD) birr per day bed rent on daily basis total 9,000 Birr (170 USD). They spent overall 22,020 Birr (415 USD) in just two months time.

After two months they were sent to Pediatric Oncology Ward. Eyob was put on chemotherapy after the necessary investigation. His mother was scared when Eyobe started to chemotherapy fearing the side effects of chemotherapy. But after the counselor advice given she calmed down. Now she stays at TAPCCO/ASLAN home and all her expenses including medicine is paid for her. Eyob was given chemotherapy for a total of three (3) times. The result is so encouraging that Doctors who follow up his case. Currently the swelling has gone and he had a CT scan that showed improvement. He still needs some more treatment and his mother is so happy to have her child treated as she is getting all the help she needs.

Thank you for the support given; if TAPCCO/ASLAN did not help I surely would have gone back. I spent all the money I got from selling my belongings and what my neighbors and relatives contributed. As a mother it is hard just to let your child die because you cannot afford treatment. Thank you for saving me from such decision. May God grant you a long life for all you do to children and mom like us.”
